Brødre (2004) vs. Brothers (2009)

I enjoyed Brodre very much and Ulrich did deliver a solid performance.
5 year later we get the same movie with American flavor. Why?

Because the industry cannot make enough money marketing a foreign movie. Maybe because some large groups of people cannot understand and be moved by somebody who doesn’t speak english…
At least this time the authors managed to preserve the original intent and Tobey did very well indeed…

Personally I’m convinced you need not American names to empathize with characters and generally the content is more important than the packaging.
Its sad that people will not see Brodre anymore just because another one with the same title is much wider available.
Btw, if you do like this one, see “Adam’s apples” as well…

I Love You Phillip Morris (2009) & La cage aux folles (1978)

I haven’t checked trailers for this one, nor the cast. I would most likely haven’t seen it otherwise…
The problem with this trailer is that tells you everything, I mean EVERYTHING in 2 minutes. Yeah, 90 minutes compressed in 2, that’s how efficient it is. Is it worth it?
Usually yes, but, in this case NO.

What would you miss? The outstanding performance from Evan McGregor. To me the movie was not about Mr Cable Guy, doing what he does best: funny faces. He did have a couple of good scenes, although I wonder if the make-up was not most of the acting. Now on the other hand, you’ll see Evan performing as good as probably Michel Serrault in “La cage aux folles“. Two Thumbs Up! (God, I hate this expression and I am probably skipping all the movies having this on the cover).

The movie is highly entertaining, very good pace and excellent acting.  And if you haven’t seen the movie you’ll enjoy it much more.Sometimes is worth taking time with things well done…

Primer (2004)

The funny thing with this one is that I saw part of it on some TV channel long time back. I liked the sample but somehow I forgot to check what was the movie name, to search for it later on.
Sometimes things get lost in the rush to the future. And luckily I found it again, accidentally. Me, happy…

The movie is quite cryptic, a PI with panache, shoot with 7000$ only. If you know others of the same caliber, do drop me a line.
Go ahead and watch the trailer below, it will not spoil the experience. This is how a good trailer should be.

AFTER you’ve seen the movie, you might as well check out a review about it.

the Squid and the Whale (1986) vs. the Boys are back (2009)

This is one interesting pair of movies, both good, each shoving a complete opposite approach to parenting.
Each movie has it’s merits and certainly excellent cast.

Personally I would prefer the last one, mainly for the positive spin. This might not be the best approach for all families but it does look good on screen.
Go see and enjoy.
